How to Use Claude for Social Media: A Setup That Lasts

Nexin · · 5 min read

To use Claude for social media, give it your brand context once (who you serve, how you sound, your topics), then ask for one platform and one format at a time: a week of Threads posts, a carousel, a reel script. Keep that context in a Project or a skill so you never paste it again. Claude drafts; you edit, add real examples and publish.

What can Claude do for your social media?

Claude is a writing and planning tool. It is good at the parts of social media that are words and structure:

  • Turning one idea into posts for several platforms.
  • Writing hooks, captions, carousel slides, threads and video scripts.
  • Planning a week of posts across your topics.
  • Rewriting a draft in your voice or to a character limit.
  • Brainstorming angles and questions your audience asks.

It does not post, schedule or read your analytics on its own, and it doesn’t generate images. You still need your scheduler or the apps themselves for publishing, and a design tool or another AI for visuals. Our comparison of Claude vs ChatGPT for content creation covers that split if visuals are a big part of your work.

How do you give Claude your brand context?

Write it down once as a file, then attach it every time or store it where Claude can always see it. A useful brand file has:

Section What to include Why Claude needs it
Reader Who they are, what they struggle with, words they use So posts speak to one person, not everyone
Voice Three traits, words to use and avoid, two or three sample posts So drafts sound like you
Topics Three to five pillars with a goal for each So posts stay on brand
Offer What you sell or give away, and where the link goes So calls to action point somewhere
Rules Platform limits, no emoji, no prices, anything off-limits So you edit less

Our brand voice guidelines template covers the voice section in detail, with examples.

In Claude.ai, put this file in a Project’s knowledge so every chat in that Project can read it. In Claude Code, keep it in the folder you work in.

How do you ask Claude for social media posts?

One platform and one format per request, with the details that change the result. Compare two requests:

  • Weak: “Write some social media posts about budgeting.”
  • Strong: “Using my brand file, write 7 Threads posts for this week on my ‘first budget’ pillar. Mix two opinions, two questions, two short lists and one mini-story. Under 500 characters each, no hashtags, no emoji.”

The strong request names the platform, the number, the topic, the mix of formats and the limits. Claude can’t guess any of those well.

Ask for hooks separately when they matter. “Give me 5 first lines for this post, each a different type” gets you options to choose from. Our hooks for social media templates give you the types to ask for.

How do you plan a week of content with Claude?

Start from one idea, not seven. Tell Claude the idea and ask for a plan that develops it on each platform you use. A simple week:

  1. Monday: ask for the long piece first, such as a blog outline or a video script.
  2. Tuesday: ask for a carousel and a reel script cut from it.
  3. Wednesday to Friday: ask for Threads or X posts that each take one point from it.
  4. Weekend: ask for a short recap post and two questions for your audience.

Put the plan in a table with date, platform, format, topic and status. Our content calendar template has the columns, and our guide to content repurposing explains why the long piece goes first.

How do skills make Claude better for social media?

Without skills, you repeat your instructions in every chat: the format rules for Threads, the structure of a carousel, the length of a hook. With skills, each process lives in a folder Claude loads when a request matches it. Ask for Threads posts and a Threads skill loads with its rules. Ask for a YouTube script and a different one takes over.

That keeps each platform’s rules sharp instead of crammed into one long prompt. Our explainer on what Claude skills are covers how they work. You can create a Claude skill for each format you post often, then follow our guide on how to install Agent Skills in Claude to add it in Claude.ai or Claude Code.

How do you edit Claude’s drafts so they sound like you?

Read every draft out loud before you post it. Cut anything you wouldn’t say. Then do three passes:

  • Add what only you know. A real example, a number from your own work, something that happened this week. Claude can’t invent these honestly, so ask it to leave a [placeholder] where one belongs.
  • Check claims. Remove any statistic or fact you can’t back up.
  • Trim. Most drafts get better shorter.

When you notice the same correction twice, add it to your brand file as a rule. Over a few weeks the drafts need less editing because the file carries your corrections.

FAQ

Is Claude free to use for social media?

You can draft posts on the free plan. Paid plans allow more usage, and installing skills in Claude.ai needs a paid plan with code execution turned on. Check Anthropic’s current plan page, since limits change.

Can Claude post to Instagram or Threads for you?

Not by itself. Claude writes the content; you paste it into the app or your scheduling tool. Some people connect tools through integrations, but the drafting and the posting are usually separate steps.

Will people know my posts were written with AI?

They might, if the drafts are generic. Posts that use your real examples, your voice rules and your edits read like you. Drafts posted without editing tend to sound like everyone else’s.

Which Claude plan is best for creators?

It depends on how much you write. Try the free plan with a brand file and a few requests. If you hit limits or want skills, move to a paid plan. Compare the current plans on Anthropic’s site before you decide.
