UUID Generator is a uuid generator that makes random version 4 UUIDs right in your browser. Pick how many you need, from 1 to 500, press Generate, and copy the list. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and it spends no credits.
What is a UUID?
A UUID, or universally unique identifier, is a 128-bit value written as 32 hex digits in five groups, like 3f2b8c1e-9a4d-4e7b-b1c2-5d6e7f8a9b0c. Microsoft calls the same thing a GUID. Software uses UUIDs as IDs for database rows, files, events, API requests and anything else that needs a name no other system will pick by accident, without asking a central server for the next number.
What is a version 4 UUID?
There are several UUID versions. Version 4 is the random one: apart from a few fixed bits that mark the version and variant (the 4 at the start of the third group shows it), every bit comes from a random number generator. With that much randomness, two v4 UUIDs colliding is so unlikely that it is treated as impossible in practice. That is why version 4 is the default in most languages and databases.
Are these UUIDs safe to use?
They are made with your browser’s crypto.randomUUID, which uses a cryptographically secure random generator. They are generated on your device, so no server ever sees them and no list of them is kept anywhere. A UUID is an identifier, not a secret, though: don’t use one on its own as a password or an access token.
How do I generate UUIDs in bulk?
Set How many to anything from 1 to 500 and press Generate. You get one UUID per line, ready to paste into a spreadsheet, a SQL insert, a seed file or a test fixture. Press Generate again for a fresh set.
Uppercase or lowercase?
UUIDs are not case-sensitive, and the standard writes them in lowercase, which is what you get by default. Some Windows tools and older systems show GUIDs in uppercase, so turn on Uppercase when you need to match them.
FAQ
Can the same UUID come up twice?
In theory yes, in practice no: version 4 has enough random bits that a repeat isn’t a concern for any real application.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same 128-bit identifier.
What does it cost?
It comes with the Nexin library: Nexin Lite or Nexin Pro opens it, and it spends no credits.
