How to roll dice online
Set the number of dice and the sides, then roll. For a board game that uses two six-sided dice, choose 2 and d6. For a tabletop role-playing check, choose 1 and d20. Every die is rolled on its own, and the result lists each one plus their sum.
What do d4, d6 and d20 mean?
The number after the “d” is the number of sides. A d6 is the ordinary cube, a d20 has twenty faces, and a d100 gives a number from 1 to 100. Role-playing games write rolls like “3d6”, meaning three six-sided dice added together. The dice roller covers that directly: 3 dice, d6, and read the total.
Is a virtual dice roller fair?
Each die is decided by crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, so every face has the same chance. On a d6 that is 1 in 6 per face. Sums are another matter: with two d6, a total of 7 comes up 1 time in 6, more often than any other total, because more combinations make it. That is the dice, not the tool.

- 2d6: possible totals run from 2 to 12, and 7 is the most likely.
- 1d20: every number from 1 to 20 has a 1 in 20 chance, and the average roll is 10.5.
- 3d6: totals run from 3 to 18, with an average of 10.5.
