This random name picker chooses a name from your list in your browser. Paste up to 200 names, one per line, spin, and the wheel lands on the person picked. Turn on “remove the winner” and the next spin draws only from the names left. Nothing is sent to a server, and it spends no credits.
How to pick a random name in class
Paste the class list once and keep the page open. With 28 students, each one has a 1 in 28 chance on the first spin, about 3.6%. Turn on “remove the winner after each spin” and the student who just answered leaves the wheel, so the next spin picks from 27, then 26, until everyone has had a turn. Students see the wheel land on a name, which makes it clear the teacher didn’t choose.
Teachers use a random name picker for:
- Calling on students to answer.
- Setting the order of presentations.
- Choosing a helper, a line leader or a group captain.
- Splitting a class into groups, one spin at a time.
How to pick a giveaway winner
Put each entrant’s name on its own line, one line per entry, and spin. For several prizes, keep “remove the winner” on and spin once per prize, so no one wins twice. If you run the draw on a live stream or a call, everyone watching sees the same spin.
Is the draw fair?
The winner is drawn with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, before the wheel starts turning. The spin only shows the result. Every name on the wheel has the same chance. Shuffle mixes the order of the names, which doesn’t change the odds.
Before you start
- A name entered twice is on the wheel twice and has twice the chance. Remove duplicates unless someone really has more entries.
- Lists aren’t saved, so keep the class list or the entrant list somewhere you can paste it from.
- There is no sound and no share link: the result is on the screen in front of you.
FAQ
Can the random name picker avoid picking the same person twice?
Yes. Turn on “remove the winner after each spin” and each name leaves the wheel once it has been picked.
How many names can I add?
Up to 200, one per line.
What does it cost?
It comes with the Nexin library: Nexin Lite or Nexin Pro opens it, and it spends no credits.
