Binary Translator

Translate text to binary and binary back to text as you type, as UTF-8 bytes in 8-bit groups, so accents and emoji work. Nothing is uploaded.

Added Oct 21, 2026

The Binary Translator is a binary translator that turns text into ones and zeros, and ones and zeros back into text, right in your browser. Results update as you type. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and it spends no credits.

How do I convert text to binary?

Type your text with Text to binary selected. The translator encodes it as UTF-8, the encoding the web uses, and writes every byte as a group of 8 bits:

  • Hi becomes 01001000 01101001
  • Hi! becomes 01001000 01101001 00100001

Plain English letters, digits and punctuation take one byte each, so one character is one group. Other characters take more: é becomes two bytes, 11000011 10101001, and most emoji take four. That is why the binary of a short word with an accent can be longer than you expect. Because the translator works with real UTF-8 bytes, accents and emoji survive the round trip.

How do I convert binary to text?

Switch the mode to Binary to text and paste the bits. Groups of 8 separated by spaces read most clearly. If the number of bits isn’t a multiple of 8, the translator says so instead of guessing, since a missing or extra digit shifts every byte after it. If the bytes form a sequence that isn’t valid UTF-8 text, you get a message saying so rather than garbled characters.

Why use a binary translator?

  • Homework and courses: checking how characters are stored as bytes.
  • Puzzles and hidden messages, where a line of ones and zeros spells a word.
  • Debugging: seeing exactly which bytes a string with accents or emoji turns into.
  • Gifts and designs: a name in binary on a print or a shirt.

A binary translator shows the raw bytes. To carry those bytes inside URLs, JSON or email, use Base64 Encode instead. For a code you can tap or blink, the Morse Code Translator writes text as dots and dashes.

FAQ

Why does one accented letter give two groups?

UTF-8 stores characters outside basic English in two to four bytes. é is two bytes, so it shows as two groups of 8 bits.

What does “not groups of 8” mean?

The total number of bits isn’t a multiple of 8, so the bytes can’t be read. Look for a missing or extra digit.

What does it cost?

It comes with the Nexin library: Nexin Lite or Nexin Pro opens it, and it spends no credits.
