Morse Code Translator

Translate text to Morse code and Morse back to text as you type, with letters, digits and punctuation. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Added Oct 21, 2026

The Morse Code Translator is a morse code translator that turns text into dots and dashes, and dots and dashes back into text, right in your browser. Type in one box and the result updates as you go. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and it spends no credits.

How do I translate text to Morse code?

Type or paste your text with Text to Morse selected. Each letter becomes its code, letters are separated by a space and words by a slash with a space on each side. A few examples:

  • SOS becomes ... --- ...
  • HELLO WORLD becomes .... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -..
  • I LOVE YOU becomes .. / .-.. --- ...- . / -.-- --- ..-

Letters, digits and common punctuation all have codes. Characters it has no code for, such as emoji or most accented letters, are skipped and listed under the result, so nothing goes missing without you knowing.

How do I decode Morse code to text?

Switch the mode to Morse to text and paste the code. Write dots as . and dashes as -, put a space between letters and / between words, exactly the format the translator produces. If a group of dots and dashes doesn’t match any character, it shows as ? in the text, which usually means a missing space between two letters or a typo in the code.

What is a Morse code translator good for?

  • Learning the alphabet: type words you know and compare the patterns.
  • Puzzles and escape rooms, where clues are often written in dots and dashes.
  • Gifts and crafts: a name or a date in Morse on a bracelet, a card or an engraving.

This morse code translator works with written code only. It doesn’t play sounds or flash a light, so for practicing by ear you’ll need a separate audio trainer.

Encoding text a different way? The Binary Translator shows the bytes behind your text, and Base64 Encode packs it for URLs and APIs.

FAQ

Why is a character missing from my Morse code?

Morse has no code for it. The translator skips it and lists it under the result, so you can rewrite it, for example spelling out an emoji as a word.

Why do I see a question mark in the decoded text?

That group of dots and dashes isn’t a known code. Check the spacing between letters and the / between words.
