This grammar checker is a skill for Claude that proofreads what you paste or attach, fixes the real errors and shows you every change it made. It is for people who want clean emails, reports, essays and posts without a tool that rewrites half of them.
How does this grammar checker work?
The skill reads the whole text first, so it knows which spelling variant, tense and tone you are using. Then it corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation and agreement errors one by one: a verb that doesn’t match its subject, “their” where you meant “there”, a tense that slips halfway through a paragraph.
Each correction comes with a short reason, for example “subject-verb agreement: the list of items is long”. You see the corrected text and the list of changes side by side, so nothing changes without you knowing.
Does it change my writing style?
No. A good grammar checker fixes mistakes and leaves the voice alone. This one keeps your words, your sentence length and your level of formality. When something is a style choice rather than an error, such as starting a sentence with “And”, a split infinitive or the Oxford comma, it flags it and leaves it as you wrote it.
The same goes for regional spelling. If your text uses “colour” and “organise”, the skill keeps UK spelling and makes the rest match. If it mixes both, it asks which you want or follows the one you name.
Light or clear: two ways to proofread
In light mode, the default, the skill fixes errors only. In clear mode, it also points to sentences that are hard to follow, such as a 60-word sentence or a pronoun that could refer to two people, and suggests a clearer version for you to accept. Even in clear mode it never rewrites your content, removes a point you made or adds a fact you didn’t give it.
When a sentence could mean two things, it asks which one you meant, because a “fix” that changes your meaning is worse than the error.
FAQ
Can it check grammar in a long document?
Yes, as long as the document fits in your Claude conversation. For long texts it works section by section and keeps its spelling and style decisions consistent.
Does it work for UK English?
Yes. It follows the variant your text already uses, or the one you ask for, and flags words that are spelled differently in US and UK English.
Will it make my text sound different?
No. Only errors are changed in light mode, and every change is listed with its reason, so you can undo any of them.
