A thesis statement generator helps most when it starts from your own argument, and this prompt does exactly that: you give it your topic, the essay type, your position and your reasons, and it turns them into several thesis options, explains why each works, writes a stronger revision and shows how the essay could be organized around it.
What makes a strong thesis statement
A thesis statement is the one or two sentences that tell the reader what your essay argues or explains. A strong one is specific enough to cover in the length you have, clear about your position, and supported by reasons you can back with evidence. A weak one is too broad (“social media affects society”), states a fact nobody would dispute, or promises more than the essay can deliver.
Compare “Social media is bad for teenagers” with “Schools should limit phone use during class because constant notifications reduce focus and make it harder for students to take part in discussion.” The second names a position, a scope and two reasons, so the essay almost organizes itself.
Argumentative, analytical and expository
The prompt adapts to the essay type. An argumentative thesis makes a claim someone could disagree with and gives the reasons. An analytical thesis says what you’re examining, which parts you’ll look at and what the analysis reveals. An expository thesis names the topic and the points you’ll explain, without taking a side.
What you get
You get three to five thesis options, each with a line on why it works and one on its weak spot. Then the prompt revises the best one and explains what changed, and sketches an outline: an introduction, one body section per reason with the kind of evidence it needs, a counterargument section for argumentative essays, and a conclusion.
Help with your argument, not a replacement for it
This is a coaching prompt. It builds on your position instead of swapping in a different one, and if your argument is weak, it says why and asks how you want to strengthen it. It never invents sources, quotes or statistics, and it doesn’t write your essay paragraphs. Check your school’s policy on AI tools before you use it.
FAQ
How long should a thesis statement be?
Usually one or two sentences, placed at the end of the introduction in most essays.
Can a thesis statement be a question?
Generally no. A question can open the introduction, but the thesis should answer it.
Can I change my thesis while writing?
Yes. Many writers revise it after drafting the body, once they see where the argument went.
