Video to GIF Maker

Turn a video into a GIF up to 20 seconds long, with your start point, frame rate and width. It runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded.

Added Oct 20, 2026

The Video to GIF Maker turns video to gif in your browser. Pick the moment, set how long it lasts, choose the frame rate and width, and download a looping GIF. The video never leaves your device: nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and it spends no credits.

Why make a GIF from a video?

A GIF plays by itself, loops forever and shows up almost anywhere an image can. No play button, no sound to mute, no player to load. That makes it the handy format for:

  • Slack, Teams and Discord messages that show a bug or a new feature in a few seconds.
  • GitHub READMEs, pull requests and issues, where a short loop explains a UI change better than a paragraph.
  • Docs, Notion pages and help articles that walk someone through a click path.
  • Reaction GIFs cut from a clip you recorded yourself.
  • Emails and slides, where video often won’t play inline.

How do I turn a video into a GIF?

  1. Drop the video, or pick it from your device.
  2. Type the Start in seconds, where the GIF should begin.
  3. Set the Length, up to 20 seconds.
  4. Choose Frames per second (8, 10 or 15) and Width (320, 480, 640 or 800 px).
  5. Make the GIF and download it.

Why is my GIF so big, and how do I make it smaller?

GIF is an old format. It stores every frame as a full picture with at most 256 colors, and it has no modern video compression. A few seconds of smooth, wide footage can easily outweigh the video it came from. The settings are there to keep that in check:

  • Shorter is lighter. Trim to the moment that matters.
  • Fewer frames per second. 8 or 10 fps is plenty for screen recordings and most reactions; 15 fps for fast motion.
  • A smaller width. 480 px suits chat and docs; 320 px for tiny loops; 640 or 800 px only when detail matters.

Screen recordings with flat colors usually look clean. GIFs carry no sound; if you need audio, keep the clip as video with the Video Converter or make it lighter with Compress Video.
